Be Radical in Your Business (3 Moves to Start Today)

Helping Design Professionals Streamline, Simplify & Succeed

Ladies, it's time to be radical.

What does radical mean to you?

I’ll admit; it’s not a word I hear often. The first thing that came to mind was those cheesy 1980s movies where everything was “radical.”

But recently the word has come up a few times in conversations, podcasts, and business discussions. And when something shows up repeatedly, I’ve learned to pause and pay attention.

So I asked myself:

What does it actually mean to be radical in business?

For me, it means making a complete pivot in how we operate.

It means letting go of the ways of working that feel safe, comfortable, and routine but, quietly keep us exactly where we are.

Growth rarely happens inside comfort.

Sometimes we need to feel that discomfort. We need to push ourselves outside our usual patterns and create new standards for how we run our businesses.

Being radical doesn’t mean chasing every caffeine-induced idea that pops into your head.

Not at all.

It means turning a thoughtful idea into a clear strategy and a game plan.

Now, let’s dive in! 🚀

Tips, Tools & Takeaways for Designers

3 Ways You Can Start Being Radical In Your Business.

✅ Radical boundaries look like this:

• 100% of client communication goes through one channel
• No responding to emails or texts on evenings or weekends
• If you work outside hours, draft responses and schedule them for business hours

Boundaries create professionalism and clarity for you and your clients.

Be Radical About Getting Paid

This one is simple but powerful.

Full payment on products
Deposits before trades are booked
• No ordering until payment is received
• No project begins without a retainer

When payment policies are clear and enforced, your business becomes financially stable and predictable.

Be Radical About Focus

Growth doesn’t come from doing more.

Often it comes from doing less, better.

Try this:

• Raise your rates
• Take fewer projects
• Stop discounting
• Focus on one repeatable system or offering

Radical clarity creates better projects, better clients, and better margins.

📌 The Radical Business Reset Exercise

Take 10 minutes and ask yourself:

• What in my business currently feels chaotic?
• What policies am I bending for clients?
• Where am I over-delivering and under-charging?

Write down three things you could simplify immediately.

Radical change often starts with one firm decision.
