Financial Friday + A 3-Day Challenge

Design Clarity Weekly

Helping Design Professionals Streamline, Simplify & Succeed

Hi friends,

Since it’s Friday, I'm sharing something new this week called Financial Fridays; a simple way to bring more clarity to the financial side of your design business.

And the timing couldn’t be better.

We’re closing in on the end of the third quarter, and for many designers it’s also tax season; that time of year when we finally sit down with our numbers and try to make sense of what the year has looked like so far.

For some, it brings clarity.
For others… a little anxiety.

Let me start with a truth many designers quietly wrestle with:

You can be incredibly busy and still feel financially unclear.

Many designers work nonstop; emails, sourcing, client calls, installs, admin and yet at the end of the month still wonder:

“Why doesn’t my business feel more profitable?”

Often the issue isn’t pricing, effort, or even math.

It’s visibility.

You simply can’t improve what you can’t see.

And that’s exactly why I’m launching a simple exercise for next week.

Now, let’s dive in! 🚀

Tips, Tools & Takeaways for Designers

3 Tips to Streamline Your Business This Week

There are two types of busy.

The first kind of busy moves your business forward; design work, client presentations, marketing, and leadership decisions.

The second kind of busy is maintenance busy; low-value tasks like repetitive admin, scheduling, document formatting, and other work that fills your day but doesn’t grow your business.

Both are necessary, but when the second type dominates your schedule, your business starts being run by an overworked assistant instead of a CEO.

Being busy doesn’t guarantee profitability.

Many designers work nonstop and still feel unclear about their numbers.

That’s because profitability isn’t about effort; it’s about visibility.

If you can’t clearly see where your time is going, it’s incredibly difficult to understand whether your projects, pricing, or processes are truly working.

Time tracking creates instant clarity.

Next week I’m inviting you to join my 3-Day Time Tracking Challenge.

For just three days you’ll track your time in 15-minute increments.

No fixing.
No judging.
Just data.

It’s one of the fastest ways to uncover:

• how much time goes into sourcing
• how much unpaid admin you’re carrying
• where projects quietly expand beyond scope
• what tasks might be better automated, templated, or delegated

Because in business, visibility always comes before profitability.

2 Resources to Check Out

📌 The 3-Day Time Tracking Challenge

I’ve written a full blog post explaining the challenge and how to do it, along with a printable time tracking sheet you can use.

If you’re ready to see where your time is really going, this is a powerful place to start.

📌 The Business Audit

If you want a deeper level of clarity, my Business Audit is designed to do exactly that.

After reviewing one designer’s business and sending her a personalized video audit, she wrote back with this:

“Your presence is calming. You command professionalism and knowledge, and your assurance that everything is fixable made such a difference.”

That’s always my goal; to help designers step back, see their business clearly, and realize that nothing is as overwhelming as it feels once we have a plan.

1 Question for You

🤔 As we approach the end of the quarter and tax season, ask yourself this:

Do I truly know where my time is going in my business?

If the answer is “not really,” you’re not alone.

But that’s exactly what we’re going to start fixing next week.

Design Clarity Weekly Helping Design Professionals Streamline, Simplify & Succeed Ladies, it's time to be radical. What does radical mean to you? I’ll admit; it’s not a word I hear often. The first thing that came to mind was those cheesy 1980s movies where everything was “radical.” But recently the word has come up a few times in conversations, podcasts, and business discussions. And when something shows up repeatedly, I’ve learned to pause and pay attention. So I asked myself: What does it...
